The Changing Face of Employment
from:Seeking employment is just one of the many responsibilities that come with adult life. With a number of factors affecting the job market at any time, there's no predicating how hard or easy a job search will be. While some careers stay in demand others may face an overflow, making it difficult to find employment in one's chosen field. Whereas most people used to spend their lives relatively close to the area they were born in, it is now commonplace for individuals to go anywhere in the world to find employment. At the same time, the internet has allowed individuals to find viable income without ever leaving the house.
The Sunday classifieds have always been a great source for finding local employment; however, the internet has markedly changed the way a job search is performed. Gone are the days of running from one place to another, doggedly turning in resume after resume. A good example of this is online job fairs. With online job fairs, individuals can send inquiries and resumes over the internet in the click of a mouse. This saves time and gas for the job seeker and rescues employers from massive piles of cover letters. The only time one will have to leave the house is when an interview is scheduled.
Finding employment in a certain trade can consist of subscribing to trade magazines or even moving to where the vocation is in heavy demand. When an individual has a specialized career, more often than not they will belong to a special association or union. A membership with these organizations has a number of benefits, including knowing which companies are hiring and what benefits are commonly offered. Most groups also have websites with links to information and contact numbers; not to mention forums and message boards where members can give each other firsthand career advice. Research is always the key to landing solid employment.
Over the last five to ten years, an unstable job market has prompted many individuals to opt for self employment. The self made entrepreneur has become quite the phenomenon in recent years. A number of individuals looking to find a way to do what they love and pay the bills have resulted in some of the newest and best products seen in years. Gone are the days of needing extensive start up capitol as individuals finance themselves with 401k's or small loans from friends and relatives. More than once it has been proven that what starts out as a small garage based business can expand rapidly and become quite profitable.

South Bay adds 3,600 jobs, strongest employment gains for April in entire state
The Bay Area overall added 3,200 jobs -- but that represented a sharp slowdown from the pace of gains earlier this year, a worrisome development for the nine-county region. During the first three months of this year, the Bay Area had averaged monthly gains of about 12,600 jobs.
