Signing a Sea Farer Contract of Employment

from:

Some people are just drawn to water. They prefer to spend their time on boats or swimming in the ocean rather than on land or at a desk. If you are one of these people, then you may have considered starting a career as a sea farer. Sea farers are people who do most, if not all, of their work on the seas, oceans, or even rivers. They are generally fisherman, but they can also be barge workers as well. Finding a job like this can be somewhat tough because it can be hard to find the headquarters of such operations. After all, the place where you would work as a sea farer is constantly moving. Still, if you find a job offer for this and apply, you may well get the job. If you do, there are some things that you need to know. A sea farer contract of employment will usually be a lot different than the standard contracts of employment that you would normally sign at the start of other jobs. This is because a sea farer contract of employment must list things about safety. Also, most sea farers spend months out to sea at a time. The contract should discuss this as well. It should say how long you will be out to sea and how long of a break you get each time you come back to port. Once you hear from your new employer that you are hired, be sure to look over the sea farer contract of employment very thoroughly so that you don't make any mistakes. You want the work you do to be valid and you want what you were promised by the company to be valid too.

After all, some companies promise certain things to new hires, but never list it in the sea farer contract of employment. This isn't always done maliciously, but people can be forgetful. Unfortunately, if there comes a time when you aren't getting off the boat when they promised, they may never remember promising it at all. If you made the effort to make sure that that kind of thing was listed in the sea farer contract of employment, then you won't have anything to worry about. Your proof will be right there!

You should also have a good look at the contract so that you make sure you are getting the right wages and benefits. Remember: contracts of employment are negotiable. If you see something that you don't like, let your employer know so that you can strike up a compromise. Then you can work out the best situation for both parties.
